Tilly Metz Caroline Roose Thomas Waitz
Opinion by Tilly Metz & Caroline Roose & Thomas Waitz
Every day, thousands of animals are transported in horrific conditions across the European Union and beyond for breeding, fattening or slaughter. The Greens/EFA are fighting for an end to these cruel practices. Negotiations on the Committee’s report are now coming to an end.

New EU deforestation law could fail to protect our precious ecosystems

Opinion by Anna Cavazzini & Rosa D’Amato & Anna Deparnay-Grunenberg & Heidi Hautala & Tilly Metz & Ville Niinistö & Grace O'Sullivan & Marie Toussaint
The Commission just adopted a proposal to stop deforestation. But this new deforestation law is all bark and no bite. It continues to threaten biodiversity and ecosystems worldwide, and EU products continue to be complicit in environmental destruction.

Promises must be met with climate action this decade

Talks at the COP26 UN Climate Conference have resulted in a series of ill-defined promises and announcements, insufficient to keep global temperature rises below 1.5°C. We are still far from reducing our global emissions by 45% by 2030. The Greens/EFA Group also criticises the last-minute change submitted by China and India to further wea…

European Parliament takes important step towards fair minimum wages in Europe

The Social Affairs Committee of the European Parliament has just voted in favour of European minimum wages. About 10 percent of the working population in Europe lives in poverty and it is mainly women who are paid below a living wage. With this proposal, minimum wages should contribute to reducing poverty and closing the gender pay gap
