Read our position papers, our studies, our statements and policy papers

Position papers include all papers formally adopted by our Group and thus representing our official position on major issues. Policy papers gather all briefings, brochures, statements from working groups or other Group bodies which have not been submitted to a vote but reflect a more technical position on specific topics. Studies are reports commissioned to experts and are accompanied most of the time with our political recommendations. For information and transparency purposes, we also publish here all Group letters sent to the other institutions or representatives

    Ban the bulb

    The Greens' written declaration for an immediate ban on the sale of incandescent light bulbs in the EU, got eventually 193 signatures from the MEPs. It is less than the 393 necessary for the adoption by the European Parliament. Clearly non-green MEPs like to speak about climate change but fail to act concretely!

    Outcome G8 summit

    G8 summit

    Two days before the start of a G8 summit which will be very much focused on climate change, China unveiled its first national plan on climate change. It stresses that China won't sacrifice economic ambitions to international demands to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

    G8 summit in Germany

    From 6 to 8 June 2007 Germany is hosting the Group of Eight (G8) summit. One of the key topic to be addressed by the leaders of the 8 richest countries is climate change. Germany tries to get an agreement on firm targets for cutting greenhouse gas emissions.

    Green hydrogen economy

    The European Parliament adopted a written declaration on establishing a green hydrogen economy and a 3rd industrial revolution in Europe through a partnership with committed regions and cities, SMEs and civil society organisations.

    CO2 emissions

    In a paper published by the US National Academy of Science, scientists reveal that the worldwide CO2 emissions rose at a faster rate in 2000-2004 than in the worst-case scenario of the UN reports on climate.The study also notes a reversal of the trend towards greater energy efficiency and lower carbon working seen in the 1990s.

    Plant fuels

    The inter-agency body UN-Energy released a report on Tuesday which advises governments to take a cautious approach to developing plant fuels. It says that negative environmental and social impacts could outweigh the benefits if production isn't managed sustainably.

    Choose the right bulb

    With the Parliament currently considering a written declaration, proposed by the Greens, for an immediate ban on the sale of incandescent light bulbs in the EU, Green MEPs hosted a stand offering the possibility to compare the currently existing light bulbs.

    Nuclear power

    The new report says that the construction costs for recent nuclear power plants have gone up as much as 300% over the budget and the average construction time has risen to almost 10 years. It concludes that nuclear power isn't an economically viable solution to climate change.
