Commission proposals welcome but not enough to steer EU through crises

Today, the European Commission has just presented two proposals, one on the revision of the Multiannual Financial Framework, the EU’s seven year budget, and the other amending the so-called Own Resources enhancing the EU’s ability to raise funds directly, rather than via Member States budgetary contributions.

Debriefing of the June plenary session

EU Parliament votes in favour of ending surveillance spyware.

The European Parliament has today approved the recommendations to the Member States and the Commission included in the findings report of the Committee of Inquiry into Pegasus(PEGA) and other cyber espionage systems.

Parliament calls for end to surveillance spyware

MEPs adopted the conclusions of the Pegasus Committee (PEGA) which was set up in the wake of the revelations that spyware had been abused inside and outside of the EU to target journalists, activists and politicians across Europe, including Greens/EFA Group MEPs Diana i Riba and Jordi Sole.

Ana miranda calls for more resources to fight the drought

EFA MEP Ana Miranda intervened today in the debate held in Strasburg to discuss the water scarcity and droughts just before the beginning of the summer season in Europe. She warned that the climate emergency is affecting the amount of rainfall in Galiza and causing a negative impact on the agriculture sector.

Breakthrough for regulating AI and banning discriminatory technologies

Members of the European Parliament have just voted on the world’s first law regulating Artificial Intelligence. This will determine the Parliament’s position for the trilogue, which is due to start this evening. Thanks to the Greens/EFA Group, the AI Act will include safeguards on environmental standards and fundamental rights .

Greens/EFA Group calls on EPP to stop blocking key law to support nature

On Thursday 15 June, the Environment Committee is expected to vote on the European Parliament negotiation mandate for the Nature Restoration Law. The Greens/EFA Group calls on ENVI MEPs, including all those in EPP and RE, to vote in favour of the compromise reached and to vote against the rejection amendment.
