Switch to green power!

Juste before the vote in the European Parliament on a resolution on climate change, and 2 days ahead of the Kyoto day, the Greens/EFA members held an action on "Stop climate change. Switch to Green Power".

Climate change impacts

EU Energy Package

After its launch by the Commission, the "Energy Package" went to the Council for discussion and negotiations among the Member States. Spring Council 2007 in relation to the Lisbon Strategy

Energy will again be high on the agenda of this year's Spring Summit, as it was last year. The major difference is that climate change is now a major priority in the context of energy policy. The Greens want to ensure that climate protection is central to the proposed energy package to be discussed.

Plant fuels

Greens highlight threats to food security and the environment from a 'plant fuel' expansion. Converting scarce food resources into fuel creates food security problems, while the production of plant fuel is an energy-intensive process that raises environmental concerns.

World energy outlook

The report produced by the European Renewable Energy Council (EREC) and Greenpeace International, provides a practical blueprint for how to cut global CO2 emissions by almost 50% within the next 43 years, whilst providing a secure and affordable energy supply and, critically, maintaining steady worldwide economic development.
